Statesville Police Department Hosts Prescription Drug Take Back Day
The Statesville Police Department will host a collection site for the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walgreens, 951 Davie Avenue.
The free, anonymous event provides a safe and convenient way for the public to dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications. Removing these medications from homes helps prevent them from falling into the wrong hands and reduces the risk of misuse, accidental poisoning and addiction.
Tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription medications will be accepted. Liquid medications, such as cough syrup, should remain tightly sealed in their original containers to prevent leakage. The Statesville collection site will also accept syringes and sharps, although these items may not be accepted at other collection locations.
During the April 2026 Take Back Day, more than 4,300 law enforcement agencies operated approximately 4,400 collection sites nationwide. The event collected 642,410 pounds of prescription medications, bringing the program’s all-time total to more than 21 million pounds. Locally, the Statesville Police Department collected 181 pounds of medications.
Those unable to attend the October 24 event may dispose of unneeded medications year-round in the secure collection bin at the Statesville Police Department headquarters, 330 S. Tradd Street. The collection bin is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
